Give More Than You Take
Outside of work, Matthew is passionate about giving back to the community and supports the charity Youth Focus. Youth Focus is an independent West Australian not-for-profit that is committed to stopping youth suicide and depression. He has participated in their annual Ride for Youth event four times, where participants cycle 700km from Albany to Perth. In those four years the total amount of funds raised was over $8,000,000 allowing the youth of Western Australia to access this unlimited service free of charge.
Youth Focus
Youth Focus is an independent West Australian not-for-profit working to stop youth suicide. Youth Focus works with young people aged 12-25 to help them overcome issues associated with depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal thoughts through the provision of free, unlimited and professional face-to-face individual and family counselling and other mental health services.
Ride For Youth
The Hawaiian Ride for Youth is held annually in March across 4.5 days with riders covering over 700kms on their way from Albany to Perth.
On their journey the riders stop at high schools to engage the students in the issues of youth suicide, depression and self-harm and the services that Youth Focus provide. The riders also share their personal stories and experiences as many have been touched in some way by these very personal issues.
